Bayern Munich right to cash in on Kroos, says Hopfner

Bayern Munich president Karl Hopfner insists that the club made "the right decision" to sell Toni Kroos to Real Madrid this summer.

The Germany international joined the Champions League holders after contract talks with Bayern over a new deal fell through due to his wage demands and the Bundesliga giants have no regrets over their decision to cash in on the midfielder.

"The board of directors made the right decision to cash in on Kroos," Hopfner told Kicker.

"After it became clear that a contract renewal was not an option following the difficult negotiations, we had to take his value into consideration.

"That's why it was the right decision to part ways before he could leave on a free at the end of his contract." Hopfner added that Xabi Alonso, who later moved the other way, still has plenty to offer at the age of 32.

"There's no need to even talk about Xabi Alonso," he declared. "He is a proper world-class star. "

And you don't quit football at the age of 32. We already saw his personality in the match against Schalke. He is undoubtedly one of the best around."
