Everton's Muhamed Besic sees red for throwing chewing gum at opponent

Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic was shown a straight red card from throwing chewing gum at an opponent while on international duty with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Besic was incensed following a collision with Andorra's Josep Manuel Ayala in the second half of the European Championship qualifying match, which Bosnia won 3-0 in Zenica on Sunday night.

Ayala's robust challenge enraged the 22-year-old, but with the culprit fleeing from the scene of the foul, Besic took his anger out on a nearby team-mate in the most bizarre fashion.

The former Hamburg and Ferencvaros player turned to confront Victor Rodriguez Soria, removing his gum from his mouth before launching it at the FC Santa Coloma player's face.

The comical case of mistaken identity had an inevitable conclusion, as the Toffees midfielder received his marching orders for a show of dissent that was closer to gross misconduct.
