James Milner unveiled as a Liverpool player -Talks Gerrard and Role

James Milner was unveiled as a Liverpool player on Monday and immediately targeted earning 'a trophy cabinet full of medals' while playing in central midfield at Anfield.

The England international revealed the pursuit of silverware is what enticed him to the club from Manchester City, as well as the opportunity to work alongside manager Brendan Rodgers, who has vowed to deploy him in his favoured position in the heart of the midfield.

Milner will take on a key role in the Liverpool side as a senior player and while he did not speak directly about Steven Gerrard, the England international will hope his presence means the Liverpool legend's absence will not be felt too strongly.

'I'd like a trophy cabinet full of medals, to be honest. That's the reason why I've come here,' Milner told Liverpool's official website.

'I'd like to come in, show my best form straight away and continue how I finished off last season when I felt I was in pretty good form.'As a team, we want to win trophies - that's what this club needs to do. The pressure is there, the expectation is there and everything is there for us.

'Milner has taken the vacant No 7 shirt at Liverpool and spoke warmly of the influence Rodgers had on persuading him to arrive at Anfield from City.

The 29-year-old made no secret of the fact that regular playing time as a central midfielder was an appealing factor.

Milner was played in a number of different positions in his final year at City, as well as spending a fair amount of time as a substitute.

'I want to play football and play more centrally if I can - and that's where the manager said he sees me playing.

'The club doesn't need a lot of selling ... but speaking to the manager and what his plans were for me, things I've heard about him from other players - I was speaking to Stevie at England and people like that - and what he said to me made me want to come and play for him straight away.'

Milner added that Rodgers has wasted no time in galvanising the squad after floundering last season.

The club finished sixth in the Premier League and were thrashed 6-1 by Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on the final day.

The scene of their horror show will be where Liverpool begin their 2015-16 campaign and Milner explained Rodgers' urge to see that lessons have been learnt by his squad.

'Within the meeting this morning, there was that determination and a sense of learning from the last couple of years.

'The manager has been here for three years, the players have been there with him too, and each season has been different.
