Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has questioned Bastian Schweinsteiger 's decision to leave the Bundesliga champions for Manchester United.
Both clubs announced at the weekend that the Germany international will continue his career in the Premier League, with the 30-year-old expected to complete his agreed move to Old Trafford in the next 24 hours.
Beckenbauer is not convinced Schweinsteiger has made the right decision, however, and feels a transfer to MLS had would have been more suitable.
"I find it very brave to make a move like this at his age," the Germany icon told Passauer Neuen Presse .
"People know Schweinsteiger at Bayern and know what he can do. That's not the case in England. He will have to prove himself all over again.
"Basti is 30 years old at the moment. I wish him all the best and hope he can represent German football well in England. Not a lot of players have succeeded in doing so.
"A move to MLS would have made more sense for me.
"He has to make sure he becomes fully match fit again and recharge his battery. And that he does not watch too many tennis matches..."
Schweinsteiger has made over 300 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern since breaking into the first team in 2002-03.
