Arsene Wenger's side were 3-0 up with with just over half an hour to play at the Emirates Stadium, only to draw 3-3 thanks to an Anthony Vanden Borre double and Aleksandar Mitrovic's last-minute strike.
Vertonghen wasted no time in sticking the knife in, but just as quickly drew the wrath of emotional Arsenal fans.

Arsenal would have qualified for the Champions League last 16 with victory but must now wait until match day four to seal their passage, though they will have to beat group leaders Borussia Dortmund in north London.
The draw also means the Gunners will have to beat Dortmund at home and Galatasaray away to have any chance of topping Group D, but would still need the Germans to lose to Anderlecht in the final round of fixtures.
