An amateur footballer from Switzerland received a 50-year ban for kicking the ball in the face of the referee and then squirting him with water.
Futebol Clube defender Ricardo Ferreira, who had been previously banned for 45 games for assaulting the rival players, expressed his shock saying he did not expect the punishment would be so harsh. The 28-year-old said:
"I had expected one or two years maximum. But 50 years? Football's my life."
The fourth-tier league's lawyer Robert Breiter explained that such cases unfortunately happen often in their league adding that players like Ferreira are not welcome.
