QPR midfielder Sandro missed his side's last match after hurting his knee sliding on dry ground celebrating a goal in training.
Rangers manager Harry Redknapp revealed the bizarre injury in a radio interview after Sandro was absent for the 2-2 draw against Stoke on Saturday.
Redknapp told talkSPORT: 'Sandro injured his knee after scoring a goal in training and sliding on the dry ground celebrating.'
Sandro was bought from Tottenham for around £10million and has had a history of troublesome injuries.
It is unclear how long Sandro will be out for, which will be a blow to a newly promoted side who have endured a difficult start.
The midfielder made his debut in defeat at Manchester United and went off with cramp after he and his team-mates were given the runaround.
Sandro admitted he nearly retired in 2012 when a knee problem ruled him out for an entire season.
