Joel Campbell more confident and more creative - Wenger

Arsene Wenger has affirmed he has been impressed by Joel Campbell, who according to the Arsenal manager has improved markedly over the last few months.

The Costa Rican forward had barely featured for the club since moving in 2011, but has seen a string of injuries give him the chance to break into the first-team.

And his manager pointed out that he had been correct to keep him at the club, while praising his development at the Emirates Stadium.

"This season I didn't want to loan him out because he has a genuine team attitude and he's a fighter," the manager said to Arsenal's official website.

"What you want from him is to bring more offensively when he plays.

"Recently he has shown that when he is confident he can produce the offensive quality and also be reliable with his team attitude.

"He's a fighter so that's great for us. I smelt something with him that is very interesting. He's creative.

"I could see that but the creativity is linked with the confidence. You open your eyes when you feel really free to take the initiative."

While the return of established stars like Aaron Ramsey will give Wenger more options out wide, he insisted that Campbell would continue to play a part in his team.

"At the end of the day you decide what's best for the team," he signalled.

"Ramsey is coming back of course, Alexis is also there but it's good to move Ramsey inside during a game and give Campbell the opportunity as well."
