Vitolo delighted after scoring fastest ever Europa League goal

Sevilla winger Vitolo set a new record
for the fastest ever Europa League
goal when he gave his side the lead
after 13.21 seconds against Villarreal .
The visitors struck straight from kick
off in their last-16 clash when Kevin
Gameiro brought down a lofted ball forward and played a chipped
pass for the onrushing Vitolo, who controlled the ball on his chest
before coolly guiding his strike past Sergio Asenjo.
The attacker sent his side on their way to a comfortable win, with
Kevin Gameiro and Stephane M'Bia netting in a 3-1 first leg win.
"I'm happy to beat this record," he explained to the media after the
game. "The best thing is that we got a great result and we are so
happy.
"Villarreal have a good team and they showed it today. They had
many chances."
The goal was a full two seconds quicker than the previous record,
which was held by Argentine Ismael Blanco, who struck after 15.19
seconds for AEK Athens in a 2-2 draw with BATE Borisov in
November 2009.
Former Netherlands international Roy Makaay holds the record in
European competition, however.
The Dutchman netted after just 10.12 seconds to help Bayern Munich
to a 2-1 last 16 victory over Real Madrid in March 2007, helping the
Germans to a 2-1 victory on the night as they eliminated Madrid on
away goals before falling to Milan in the quarter-finals.
