Wayne Rooney matches Thierry Henry's all-time Premier League goals record

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has matched Thierry Henry's all-time Premier League goals record with his strike against QPR on Sunday. The England captain picked up the ball from Ander Herrera before cutting inside from the left and beating Rob Green at his near post to give Louis van Gaal's side a 3-0 lead before half-time. Rooney has now scored 175 times in the English top flight, the same as former Arsenal hero Henry. The former Everton forward reached the landmark in 377 appearances, whereas Henry took just 258. Rooney is now joint third in the all-time scoring charts, and needs just 13 more goals to leapfrog Andy Cole into second. But he is still 85 behind former Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer, who notched 260 times in 441 appearances.
